Oh, this is going to be tough. But I will be honest.
My grandmother is Ukranian and she had spent last 30 years living in Crimea, I have spent my whole childhood there and I think I have the right to say that it is my second homeland. I want it to become a part of Russia. You haven’t been there, that’s why you (not you personally, I mean people in general) find it so easy to judge and to accuse. Most of the Crimea population wants to be a part of Russia as well. Why? Because ever since it had become autonomic and lost the rock that the USSR used to be for it it began to rot. In the last 15 years the once perfect, beautiful, unique place ideal for living and travelling escalated into the state of utter ruin and, no offense, shithole. Every year I go there I see only destruction of the things I loved and cherished. Ukraine makes money, sucks them out of Crimea but gives nothing in return. It doesn’t mean that Russia wouldn’t suck the money as well, it would, of course it would, BUT and this is a huge and an important but: Russia will invest into it first. Where would Ukraine find the money to pay pensions and to invest into medical help and care in Crimea when they don’t have enough for their own territory and people? During the last 10 years all I have seen were only hotels, apartment buildings and shops built in Crimea, while the woods were cut out, historical places abandoned and violated. Do you have any idea how dirty and unhealthy the sea is in most towns and cities there? It is dangerous to swim, you have to either pay crazy money to enter a beach owned by the hotel, or to look for a wild undeveloped beach somewhere between the rocks… People in Crimea are poor, really poor, no matter how hard they work, their salaries simply do not cover their expenses, I know that for a fact. Do you honestly believe Ukraine can provide Crimea with everything necessary? I think not, Ukraine has enough of its own shit to deal with. America and Europe make such great fuss about this whole situation because of the Black Sea, even though there had always been an agreement between Crimea and Russia and russian navy had always been stationed there, so after Crimea joins Russia nothing would change in that regard - nobody was ever going to give it to americans or EU, you know.
I have given you my opinion on Crimea, not Ukraine. Regrading Ukraine’s situation I honestly can’t say anything, simply because I believe we are all greatly misinformed. I want Crimea to join Russia, that is my honest wish and I have given valid arguments for that. For Ukraine I only wish for the bloodshed to stop. I don’t know all the facts, every day I read one thing there and a completely different one somewhere else, I don’t believe whatever it is americans or russians or ukrainians say on TV because they always say bullshit there. If ukranians think that what they fight for is right - I can only express my best regards and support.
Honestly? Russia doesn’t need Ukraine. Be rational about that. This territory can’t give Russia anything valuable, nobody is going to invade it and make it “its bitch”. EU and NASA are afraid that Russia will take Crimea and would turn off gas that channels through Ukraine’s territory and will raise fees. That is all. Nobody there really cares for what is going on in the country. I feel sad and devastated by the fascists’ actions in Ukraine, I am frightened for my friends there, I simply wish it all stopped and people started talking and solving their problems though civic conversations not the abattoir.
P.S.: EU said “nothing dramatic is going on there we won’t give you any money”. How dare they speak up after that? When they all but spitted in the faces of Ukrainian people? What claims do they have after that?
